The campus celebrates the opening of its newest building, the Downtown Campus Center, next week. The building, at the corner of 18th and N streets, across from City Hall in downtown Merced, will house about 300 professionals when it’s at capacity.
UC Merced is planning a community-wide celebration to honor the opening. The entire community is invited to join the action at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 23. The lively event is open to all ages and will include refreshments, music, a photo booth and children’s activities.
The program will be short, so attendees are encouraged to come early. The building will be wrapped in blue ribbon and attendees will snip the ribbon in unison. Participants get to take home their ribbon segments as mementos of this moment in Merced history.
The event is expected to end at noon, just in time for attendees to enjoy lunch downtown. Several businesses are offering event-related discounts for those who show their ribbon segments. To date, the following businesses are offering specials:
