UC Merced Associate Chancellor and Chief Diversity Officer Dania Matos has been selected as a fellow in La Academia de Liderazgo (Leadership Academy) by the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU).
The one-year fellowship seeks to increase the number of talented individuals who aspire to leadership positions of current and emerging Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSIs).
Matos was one of 26 chosen for the La Academia’s second cohort. Fellows will take part in leadership-development activities that will prepare them for roles in the full spectrum of higher learning institutions, including HSIs.
La Academia will feature three seminars; the first is scheduled for October in conjunction with HACU’s Annual Conference, which will be held remotely.
“Representation matters. I am honored to be selected to participate in this important fellowship to increase access and opportunity to diverse leaders and to bring this work to UC Merced,” Matos said. “I thank HACU for my selection and Chancellor Muñoz for his support and look forward to collaborating with other instrumental leaders both nationally and internationally.”
HACU represents more than 500 colleges and universities in the United States, Latin America and Spain, and in school districts throughout the U.S. The association, headquartered in San Antonio, Texas, with a regional office in Sacramento, champions Hispanic success in higher education.
