Dear Campus Community,
The search for UC Merced’s next chancellor has begun, and it is important that all of us do what we can to ensure that we can attract a highly qualified candidate pool from throughout the nation.
As members of our campus community — the people who live, work and attend class here — you are the best source of information when it comes to identifying and communicating the challenges and opportunities that make UC Merced unique.
Next month, members of the search advisory committee will host a series of town halls for faculty, staff and students who wish to offer their perspectives on what qualities the next campus chancellor should possess to be most successful in leading UC Merced.
The town hall sessions will occur Oct. 2 in the California Room at the following times:
- 9 to 10 a.m. — Faculty
- 11 a.m. to noon — Staff
- 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. — Students (graduate and undergraduate)
- 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. — Students (graduate and undergraduate)
Faculty, staff and students are encouraged to attend any session that suits their schedule, even if not at the designated time for their stakeholder group. The event flier is also available online.
To prepare for the town hall sessions and provide the search advisory committee with the best information possible about the campus, region and its community, everyone is encouraged to consider the greatest challenges and opportunities facing UC Merced in the areas of research excellence, student success and public service.
Following the town halls, the committee will work with the search firm to update the position profile to most accurately convey the university community’s priorities for the skills and experience represented in the candidate pool.
For the convenience of all campus community members, the town hall sessions will be broadcast live online and recorded for later viewing. Links to the live broadcasts will be shared closer to the Oct. 2 event date. You can download the event flier here.
Remote viewers will not be able to submit feedback during the town hall broadcasts, but all members of the UC Merced community are invited to share their perspectives anonymously via online survey or by emailing the hiring firm directly at MercedChancellor@imsearch.com .
