Dear Campus Community members,
Attorneys representing the University of California are appearing today before the Supreme Court to argue the Trump administration acted unlawfully in its decision to rescind the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) policy. Although the court is expected to issue its ruling sometime in the spring or summer of 2020, we believe that it is imperative for us to reiterate our unwavering support for our DACA and undocumented community members.
We stand strong with the UC Office of the President and our sister campuses in support of the University’s stance against this unjust and cruel action. At UC Merced, nearly 600 undocumented students call our campus home.
While today’s hearing is on the limited issue of DACA, we recognize that this time also brings uncertainty and fear for community members who come from families of mixed status and thus affects all of us in different ways.
The University of California is among the top research university systems in the world and many of our undocumented campus community members have contributed directly to this success. These scholars are a part of the rich tapestry that enhances our community in countless ways. We see their contributions in the innovative research they are conducting in labs and in the field. We see their influence in area classrooms where they are serving as tutors and mentors. These hardworking, taxpaying scholars enrich our various communities each and every day.
We firmly believe these individuals deserve protection and wholeheartedly agree with efforts to preserve DACA. As this case winds its way through the legal system, we will do our part to ensure students are supported.
We understand that for many, these uncertain times can trigger anxiety and worry. As such, we would like to remind students, faculty and staff members, allies and advocates to practice self-care and know your rights. Below are some available resources:

- The Services for Undocumented Students office is committed to empowering undocumented students and offers resources for those who want to serve as allies. They can be reached at undoc@ucmerced.edu .
- The UC Immigrant Legal Services Center provides free legal consultations to UC Merced students and their immediate family members.
